Ensure a dental exam has been done and you have no outstanding treatments such as fillings, crowns or active periodontal disease

Professional dental cleaning has been completed to remove tartar and extrinsic stain

Use a sensitivity toothpaste twice a day for 2 weeks prior to whitening appointment such as one with potassium nitrate

Avoid extremely acidic foods/beverages prior to teeth whitening appointment

Continue to use sensitivity toothpaste twice a day for two weeks. You may use the toothpaste as a spot treatment on individual teeth as needed by rubbing the paste on teeth for 60 secs

Use the sensitivity relief gel provided by your dental professional and apply on sensitive teeth if necessary

Try to avoid or reduce staining foods/drinks such as coffee, tea, berries, chocolates and tobacco products for at least 24 hours

Maintain good oral hygiene and continue to get routine dental cleanings
